We have three, close-knit communities for learning. The child to teacher ratio in each of these classes is small, allowing the children to become a team-oriented group of learners and the teacher to provide individualized help and care. Within these classes, a love for learning and for their Savior is fostered. The joy and wonder of childhood is cultivated through studies based on the Creative Curriculum, which encourages using the interests of the children as units of study.
For all students, we offer as many real-life experiences as possible. This year, the children got to climb aboard a fire truck and see the fire-fighters put on their special clothes, touch animals from the NC Museum of Natural History, hold and watch bugs from NC State, ride their bikes and trikes in our “trike-a-thon” to support St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, watch a plumber weld pipes, hold easter bunnies, interview a cook and a construction worker, and the list goes on and on!
In all classes, Children are observed intentionally on a daily basis, and these observations are recorded through notes, pictures, videos, and child-produced work. These types of demonstrations of growth are then collected in the child’s portfolio and shared with parents. This allows the teachers and parents to track growth and progress in an authentic, natural way. Learning assessments are made based on the domains and goals outlined in the NC Foundations for Early Learning and Development. You can check out this tool at www.ncpublicschools.org/earlylearning.
We currently offer limited part-time (2 or 3 full days) enrollment and full-time enrollment (M-F preschool and extended care hours from 7 am – 6pm) for children ages 3-5. We would love for you to join our family!
